Pressemelding Nigel Coates

10 March 2016

Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH (GTV) is taking part for the first time in After Stockholm, an annual event organised at the Kontorrama in Oslo after the Stockholm International Furniture Fair. After Stockholm showcases the latest products of selected brands, combined with lectures given by some of the most highly-acclaimed European designers directed at architects, interior designers and contractors.

GTV will be participating alongside British designer Nigel Coates, one of the main guests of the 2016 edition of After Stockholm. Coates will deliver a talk illustrating his work and collaboration with our brand for which he has created some of our most recent successful designs. These proposals by Coates will be complemented by others that will be exclusively showcased at the Salone del Mobile in Milan in April.

Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH is part of a great European history that merges tradition and innovation, renewing its style lines through continuous project research.  Gebrüder Thonet is a protagonist in the critical passage from craftsmanship to industry, thanks to an approach which anticipates modern design and has contributed to the definition of the visual grammar of contemporaneousness.

Today, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH (GTV) renews its relationship with the world of design by conceiving a new phase of its history together with designers who are preeminent on the international stage. It is a company vision which confirms the vocation of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna for project research, the link between its own past and the future, with the goal of continuing on the road outlined by tradition through innovation.

One of our most successful collaborations over the last few years has been with Nigel Coates, an architect, designer and commentator of modern times, the personification of a rare artistic talent, a man capable of skilfully bringing together heterogeneous professional realms.

His passion for the fluidity of shapes has enabled him to take Wiener GTV Design's trademark stylistic features and reinterpret them, giving life to successful products such as the LEHNSTUHL armchair in 2014, which was followed last year by the LEHNSTUHL-HOCKER footstool and BODYSTUHL chair.

What sets these creations apart is their complexity which takes form in their frames which vary in thickness: bent wood shapes LEHNSTUHL's wide armrests which highlight the backrest and the comfortable woven cane seat which features a unique loose mesh design. The LEHNSTUHL-HOCKER footrest is an original design with a steam-bent beech frame enriched with woven cane, which complements LEHNSTUHL's amplified lines, becoming its natural interlocutor. Sinuous shapes also define the profile of BODYSTUHL, which features a frame which varies in thickness, enriched by an ample seat and ergonomic backrest made of woven cane. These are all furnishing accessories which follow on from other designs by Nigel Coates, bringing together great comfort and refined elegance.

In Oslo, GTV has been called upon to set up the elegant lounge with a selection of its most recent iconic designs. Besides Coates' proposals, guests will be also welcomed by the TARGA sofa, which belongs to Gebrüder Thonet Vienna's first collection of upholstered furniture designed by GamFratesi. TARGA proposes a new concept of comfort which includes an elegant two-seater sofa and an armchair suitable for contract spaces intended for more intimate, cosy gatherings, but also for residential environments with a non-conventional vibe. All the traditional elements of the brand contribute to this exclusive project: the bent beech structure supports the wide seat cushion and the padded backrest has a woven cane edge and features the ellipsoidal plate after which the design is named. Completing the set-up are the HIDEOUT lounge-chair by Front, an exquisitely-refined design which won the IF Gold Design Award in 2016, and the SINGLE CURVE coffee tables which feature Nendo's trademark rigour and poetic interpretation.

Aslo coming to Oslo are GTV's evergreen designs: the REHBEINTISCH table(Gebrüder Thonet, 1888), the WIENER STUHL armchair (August Thonet, 1904) and the CZECH chair (Hermann Czech, 1994).

Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH is owned by Moschini Spa from before 2003.

Since 2013, the Italian Production Furniture International SpA. firm - 100% managed by Moschini Spa - manages the entire company, projecting it into a new phase of its long history.

All products created by Gebrüder Thonet Vienna are characterized by the new trademark Wiener GTV Design.
